A Disappointing Conclusion: Halloween Ends Fails to Capture the Magic of its Predecessors - 1.5/5 Stars
As an ardent fan of the Halloween franchise, particularly the exceptional 2018 instalment, my excitement for Halloween Ends was palpable. Sadly, my anticipation quickly transformed into deep disappointment as the film fell off course, offering a convoluted and disjointed narrative that failed to do justice to its predecessors. With regret, I rate this movie a 1.5 out of 5 stars, and this is generous.
One of the most glaring issues with Halloween Ends lies in its departure from the established storylines and the introduction of irrelevant characters. The film takes a detour from the well-crafted mythology, which left me confused on why they took this route for the final instalment. It makes the franchise feel unfinished and leaves me wondering if this movie was purely a cash-grab. This unnecessary shift not only disrupts the continuity but also detracts from the core essence of the franchise.
Additionally, the repetitive nature of the story becomes tiresome, robbing the film of any suspense or surprise. The plot feels stuck in a loop, rehashing familiar events.
Despite the disappointing writing, one redeeming aspect of Halloween Ends is Jamie Lee Curtis' brilliant performance. As the iconic Laurie Strode, Curtis delivers a commendable portrayal. Her presence brings a much-needed anchor to an otherwise stale film, but even her stellar acting cannot fully salvage the overall experience.
To conclude Halloween Ends fails to capture the essence and magic of its predecessors. The departure from the established narrative, the inclusion of irrelevant characters, and the repetitive storytelling all contribute to a messy and poorly executed film. While Jamie Lee Curtis delivers a exceptional performance, it's not enough to redeem the shortcomings. I can see the fans of this franchise will be left longing for another movie to fully terminate this franchise with the ending it deserves.
