Model Making
Model Making - Session 1
In this session we created a 1:50 scale model of ourselves out of cardboard. We then created a perfect cube to practise using our scale rulers. Lastly we scaled down 2x4 riser platform. This was quite fun as it helped me understand the scale ruler and we were told what materials, tools and brands worked best for model making.
Model Making - Session 2
In this session we created a working door the same hight as our riser platforms. This was using the same technique as the box but there was more intreicate cuutting out. I didn't like using the PVA glue so i started using super glue which i preferred so much more so i'll be using this in future.
Model Making - Session 3
In this session we created a window out of 5 pieces of card but used a more eco friendly card which I find was easier to cut. The window was alot more detailed and required more concentration especially when cutting out the muttins in the window.
Sketch Up
Sketch Up - Session 1
During our first SketchUp tutorial, we learned the basics of creating simple shapes and how to manipulate them. We then progressed to constructing a basic room using shapes and push/pull tools. After that, we worked on making a model of the theatre in the Waverley building. We then were shown how colours and textures can create different atmospheres and moods, and we applied this knowledge to our models. We also explored the online gallery to add furniture to our rooms, learning how to duplicate and move them around. To make our SketchUp models look more realistic, detailed, and atmospheric, we further improved our skills by using the freehand line tool to create organic shapes and textures. I really enjoyed this lesson and I can’t wait to progress further in SketchUp.
Illustrator
Illustrator
In our illustrator session we were showed how to make a vector ready for laser cutting using red and green lines. I have used illustrator for years so the introduction wasn’t helpful to me but it gave me a chance to play around with vectors and I made this giant RedBull can in a desert.
Workshop
Workshop - Session 1
In our workshop session we used various power tools such as a band saw, multiple sanding machines, and a nail gun to turn this MDF into a keepsake box. The meticulous process began with precise measurements using measurements to get the lid's curves right. After removing excess material with the band saw, attention turned to the sanding machines to ensure smooth edges to avoid splinters and a polished, secure finish. The physical assembly of the box was achieved using wood glue and a nail gun, providing a swift, sturdy and efficient method for completion. To enhance the final result, I could have considered rounding the edges for a more streamlined aesthetic or even painting on a design.
